Director of Music Ministries

Director of Children’s Ministries

Part-Time Assistant Director of Music Ministry
Good Shepherd, a mid-sized, multi-cultural United Methodist Church in Dale City, VA, is seeking applicants for the position of Assistant Director of Music Ministry. Primary duties include: conducting a 10-15 person Chancel Choir on scheduled Sundays (typically once or twice a month) and at other special services (e.g. Christmas, Easter); assisting the Director of Music Ministry in planning and selecting music for the Chancel Choir; and, conducting the Chancel Choir at weekly rehearsals. The expected time required for these duties is 6-8 hours per week. Desired skills/qualifications include: knowledge and experience in Church music ministry; knowledge and experience in directing choral music; good interpersonal skills; and, the ability to teach choral music fundamentals. The annual salary ranges from $7000 to $9000 depending on qualifications and experience. Applicants willing and qualified to assume the following additional duties and responsibilities are also encouraged to apply: assist with the coordination of the music program with the liturgical themes established by the senior pastor and Worship Committee; develop the participation of youth and adults in choral and instrumental music for worship services and community events; conduct and lead mixed ensembles of singers/instrumentalists in various musical styles; provide vocal or instrumental performance on a regular basis to enhance Good Shepherd’s worship services; and, adapt choral and instrumental music arrangements as required for singers and instrumentalists in Good Shepherd’s choirs and instrumental ensembles. The qualifications required for these expanded duties include: familiarity with both traditional and contemporary Christian music; proficiency in singing or in a worship-appropriate musical instrument; working knowledge of one of the major software programs for music composition and arranging; exemplary organizational and communication skills. To encompass these expanded duties, the expected commitment would be for up to 15 hours per week with a commensurate level of compensation. Music Ministry Associate: Choir Director
