Immigration Resources

“Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing that some have entertained angels without knowing it.” Hebrews 13:2 (NRSV)

The Working Group on Immigration  has been led by the Commission on Ethnic Ministry Concerns and Advocacy with representatives from the conference Boards of Communications, Church and Society, and Global Ministries. The group affirms  the position of The United Methodist Church as contained in the Social Principles in the 2012 Book of Discipline and the 2012 Book of Resolutions.

As people of God, we live by the rule of love. We love the land and all the people of God’s planet. We will continue to facilitate a conversation with people of faith as we explore this issue. We offer you this prayer, in honor of the Savior who himself sojourned as a stranger in a strange land.

We thank you, God, for coming to us as a neighbor, a stranger, an immigrant, binding our wounds and carrying us to safety, so that we might love you with all our heart, soul, and mind, and welcome the stranger, loving our neighbor as ourselves.  Amen.
(Adapted from “Short Preface,” )

We also commend the Immigrants’ Creed:

Both can be used in worship or other settings to assist us as we seek to understand our role and calling as the church around these issues.

Hope & Hospitality, Tools for Leaders is a new resource on immigration from the United Methodist Women. It includes bible studies, worship, programs, hymns and prayers, UMC policy, and many articles and resources on the issues, resource list, action ideas, as well as articles linking immigration to other UMW Social Action priorities.
